ACC Subsidies - Get some $ back

ACC has three sets of health & safety focused subsidies available for Manufacturing, Residential Construction, and the wider Construction industries.

The logic from ACC is that by supporting employers in managing high risk areas in their businesses, then statistically that should lead to less claims.  Good in theory however, history tells us that this doesn’t work so well in practice.

That said, we are still encouraging employers to take up the subsidies as they will help you improve parts of your health & safety risk management.

The subsidies available are based on the business levy code – Manufacturing has 144 eligible levy codes whilst Residential Construction has 21 and Construction et all has 26 different levy codes.

The subsidies are based on a co-payment type set up i.e. ACC pays for 50% of the bill up to the pre-set cap.  So, if the subsidy is $500 and the consulting bill is $2,000 than ACC pays $500.  If a bill is $800, ACC pays $400.

The subsidies themselves are set on payroll bands.  The larger the payroll the larger the subsidy.

Manufacturing

The subsidy is for health & safety consulting support.

6 - 50 staff                 $500 subsidy

51 - 99 staff               $1,300 subsidy

Employers can get support with driving a specific initiative / action plan that is relative to the business and covers a particular risk area – no strict criteria however it has to be relevant to the business.  Suggestions include:

  • Focus on Machinery and Guarding

  • Review of Hazardous Substances

  • Review of claims and creating a tailored solution

 Construction - Residential

The subsidy is for health & safety consulting support.

 6 - 19 staff                 $500 subsidy

20 - 49 staff               $1,200 subsidy

50 – 99 staff              $2,400 subsidy

This subsidy is specific and needs to focus on two areas:

  • Review of your Working at Heights risk

  • Focus on Moving Plant and Machinery

 Construction (civil, vertical and residential)

Health & safety training for Supervisors (foreman, leading hands, health & safety managers, etc) with one of four training providers.

 6 - 19 staff                 $350 subsidy

20 - 49 staff               $850 subsidy

50 – 99 staff              $2,000 subsidy

We strongly recommend employers take up the subsidy – after all, you have paid your levies for this benefit.  More importantly, you can access support in dealing with some of the higher risk areas in your business.

As ACC Agents we can quickly see if you are eligible and can guide and support you.
