It's time for a change

Ahhh Spring.

That time of the year when the bees come out, the grass grows faster and New World releases the Little Garden Pot series again.

Those days when the sun is a little warmer, the evenings are a little colder and the wind is a little stronger. Days and nights start to even out, you can see the shoots on the trees and the strawberries go into growth overdrive. Spring means the weather is temperamental (anyone flying out of Wellington in the spring can attest to that), one day torrential rain, the next day scorching hot. It also means hay fever, mowing the grass more often and the appearance of rats and mice.

I’ve always loved spring – not because it signals the beauty of greenery, growth and nature, but because it means in a couple of short months summer will be here. Lazy days at the beach, swimming, cycling and BBQs.

We’ve had enough of winter, Covid, lock downs, and 2020 in general, so here’s a little Spring poem my Grandmother taught me:

Spring is sprung

The grass is riz’

I wonder where the birdies is?

Up above me, from the sky

A birdie done one in my eye

I’m a big girl I don’t cry

I just thank goodness cows can’t fly!

Roll on summer 😊

Cheers,

Sue Walton.
