Pay it forward
Pay it forward
If there was ever a simple concept that can make change – in my opinion Pay it Forward is it.
This is the idea that if something good is done for you, then you do something for someone else. Most of us do this subconsciously for people we meet, loved ones, family and friends, even smiling at a stranger or holding open a door but how often do we do it for a business?
Slightly different in method, but to my brain, still the same concept. If a business does a good job for you, yes pay their invoice – that goes without saying. But what else can you do to support that business? You don’t need to fundraise, commit more money, purchase another product/ service from them (although repeat customers are good and we will never turn you down), you can do something as simple as saying to 5 other businesses – “Hey, these guys are good – have a chat with them”.
Word of mouth advertising is just as powerful, if not more so, than social media. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter all have their places and are a great way of getting information to the masses out quickly. Having a casual conversation with someone at a BNI meeting, a coffee at your local café, a business lunch, even a pint at the pub carries more advertising power with less cost than any other form of advertising.
We’re being told to be kind, support local, invest in New Zealand. The easiest, most cost effective, powerful way to do this? Pay it forward for a business and let’s get the economy rocking again.
PS – If you’ve never seen the movie, do it – just make sure you have tissues handy….
